The PantomimeTheaterFestival Dresden has a 37-year history. Since the Mimenstudio Dresden as the festival's organizer is restructuring this year, the August Theater has taken over hosting the festival this year. Nevertheless, as every year, there will be a grand opening gala staged at Schuelerbuehne. Read more about our program and the artists.

The puppeteers Stefan and Virginia Matz from the theater con
Curore guide you through the program with their characters from
the performance "Hear my Song".
Csaba Mehes is from Hungary and the funniest mime we can just
imagine. He was therefore already several times invited to Dresden
as we cannot get enough of him. And laughing is healthy.
Duo Mimikry from Berlin presents himself to the Dresden
audience first in the gala and later in her brilliant evening
performance "Visual short stories". They belong to a generation of
mimes that is edefining the art form based on their sound and
certified pantomime training in terms of rhythm, craziness and
speed.
Nabil Zanabili performed in 2017 with his play "Father and Son" at
the pantomime festival MIME> BERLIN. With the Duett Modern
Mimes he will perform a second time later during the festival.
Katja Grahl from Berlin is also part of the duo Modern Mimes and
an artist specializing in galas, dinner shows and city festivals, who
combines mime with dance and artistry.
Hannah Senft from Berlin combines like no other pantomimin lyric
style with absolutely grotesque craziness. She presents at the gala
"I know, black, gray". An absurdly funny, abstract visual essay
about being, appearance and nonbeing, in the above mentioned
"colors".
The Preußsches Marionettentheater from Berlin: Harald Preuß
presents scenes from „Die Zauberflöte“ and „Entführung aus dem
Serail“
Duckie L'Orange is an Australian performance artist based in
Berlin. Using her core artform, figurentheater, she delights and
surprises audiences with comedic and thoughful acts. She has had
a residency collaborating artistically with children at the Sydney
Opera House, worked for many years in contemporary puppetry
with Erth, moderated a steam punk carnival for the Catalan circus
Antigua i Barbuda and has toured Germany with Puppetry Slam
Deutschland. She has also created large scale outdoor
performances with communities in Indonesia and Freiburg. She is
the creator of her solo program Girls! Girls! Girls! and the
UfaFabrik's International Clown Slam.
Arne König is first and foremost known as mime artist in Dresden
as beeing member of the ensemble of the former Pantomimestudio
Dresden and stagings created in cooperation with the AUGUST
Theater and the joint performances with Duncan Cameron
"URKNALL".

The scenes of light humor draw upon the typical root situations of comedy, displaying the tools of the classic Decroux mime technique. During the program the audience becomes a participant and active performer of the plot by way of games and improvisations. Among the funny etudes there might surface some scenes of deeper meaning often characterized by grotesque humor, yet easily understandable for the general public. AUGUST Theater Dresden:Sat. Pierrot is the outsider, the dreamer with all its facets and ways of playing. He wrestles with the world and tries to reconcile it with his dreams. It creates touching and comic moments that are told with ease. In alternation with short, slapstick-like scenes, a varied program is created for the whole family. Idea, Concept and Direction: Katja GrahlQuite different is the Variety with Fischer's puppets, which understands the history of the traditional puppet stages and conjures up a very close-to-the-people view of the characters on threads. This evening of variety show promises to be unique. Marc, who feels like a poor dog, touches Vianne's heart and the two decide from now on together to go their artistic way. Before reaching the Valley of the Animals, dogboy must undergo trials.The origin of this action - piece is the rediscovery of pan-to-mime in its original meaning, that ‘everything can be shown’. All is observed and unobserved. A challenge to ‘the gaze’ and a reoccupation of the visual plain.Eric has a forthcoming 180 page autobiography about forty yearsmaking shows across the world „Paid to Move, Misadventures on the Global Pantomime Front“ soon available as ebook.

Don Juan offers his services. For two hours, the world's greatest lover beckons with his seduction skills. The Spanish nobleman gives his reference: However, the action takes a slightly different course. First it crackles:Night in Seville, blue light dances over splendid town houses, sweet melodies accompany shadows - Don Juan in heavy copulation. The music gets brighter:Satan enters the stage - a greasy-lascivious pimp type in a bright red jacket and plenty of gel in his hair. Cynically, he comments on the hypocritical activity. Satanic and satirical, he lets us look into the abyss of existence. After all Don Juan is honest after all - he operates openly, which otherwise only happens behind closed doors: "I want to break the rule, I want to enjoy it. But my power goes away, in case a woman resists. "Well, that should be found:The copulation has an end - Don Juan does not go down as originally: He succumbs to love. The actor is Satan holding his characters in his hands. Through this interaction of actors and characters succeeds a delightful alienation - a grotesque comedy for all the senses.Puppeteer Grigorij Kästner-Kubsch performs as a soloist in several parade roles.
